I'm Fred Liu, a software engineer. I've spent my career building software, and building the tools other engineers build software with.

This blog is about AI-assisted development as a craft — editors, agents, workflows, and the gap between what these tools promise and what they actually deliver once real work runs through them. I write about my own projects and my own experiments, on my own time.

What this blog is not

This is a personal site, independent of my employer in every sense that matters:

• Nothing here is about my employer, their products, their plans, or how they work internally.
• Nothing here draws on confidential or non-public information.
• Nothing here represents my employer's views, positions, or endorsements.
• Every opinion is my own, and I speak only for myself.

If something I write looks like it describes my employer, it doesn't — read it as a general observation about the industry, because that is all it is.

The site itself

Static, built with Astro, hosted on infrastructure I own outright. The setup tooling behind it is open source; that project grew out of building this one.
